Xi'an Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences
It is responsible for liaison and coordination of scientific research institutions in Shaanxi and Shanxi provinces, including Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, National Time Service Center, Institute of Earth Environment, Institute of Coal Chemistry, and co-construction units, including Research Centre of Soil and Water Conservation and Qinling National Botanical Garden.
Main Responsibilities: Under the leadership of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and Government, it assists in the construction of leading bodies of local affiliated units, actively organizes and coordinates the strategic needs of affiliated units around regional economic and social development, promotes the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and makes contributions to local economic construction and social development.
Key disciplines: Involving photonics theory and technology, transient optics, high-resolution visible light spatial information acquisition and optical remote sensing technology, theory and technology of interference spectrum imaging, photoelectric engineering; High-precision time service technology and time service, time and frequency measurement and control, satellite navigation and communication; Quaternary geology, research on the process, rule, mechanism, trend and sustainability of earth environmental change, and regional ecological environment construction; Clean and efficient utilization of coal, preparation and application of new carbon materials.
Talent team: By the end of 2023, there are 2,261 employees in Xi'an Branch system. There are 1,927 professional and technical personnel, including 315 seniors and 608 associate seniors. At present, there are 3 academicians, 55 national talents and 246 provincial talents of Shaanxi and Shanxi.

Shaanxi Academy of Sciences is an institution directly under Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and engaged in comprehensive natural science research. It is co-located with Xi'an Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences.Its affiliated units include: Xi'an Botanical Garden (Shaanxi Institute of Botany), Shaanxi Institute of Zoology (Northwest Institute of Endangered Animals), Shaanxi Institute of Microbiology and Bio-Agriculture Institute of Shaanxi.
